Mahal
A decorative Afghan Mahal rug, knotted by hand with hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool. Woven by master weavers in northern Afghanistan.
A classic design inspired by the village weaving traditions of west-central Persia, where Mahal carpets flourished during the great expansion of the Sultanabad carpet industry in the nineteenth century. Their blend of traditional Persian design with spacious, open drawing created a style that has remained popular for over 150 years. This contemporary interpretation blends the bold floral drawing of Mahal rugs with the rich color traditions of modern Afghan weaving.
