Isfahan

An Afghan Isfahan rug, knotted by hand with hand-carded, hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool, woven by master weavers in northern Afghanistan.

Inspired by the great Safavid court-carpet tradition associated with Isfahan, where Persian carpet design reached extraordinary refinement during the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The classic all-over composition of scrolling vines, counterposed palmettes, and floral and leaf motifs belongs to a celebrated artistic tradition found in some of the finest surviving Safavid carpets.
