Serapi
An Afghan Serapi center medallion rug, knotted by hand by master weavers in northern Afghanistan with hand-carded, hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool.
A historic design rooted in the nineteenth-century village weaving traditions of the Heriz region of northwestern Persia, where the sought-after Serapi carpets, as they came to be known in the carpet trade, were distinguished for their spacious drawing, elegant angular medallions, and refined natural color. A grand stepped center medallion is set within an open field of stylized flowering forms, framed by a border of broad Herati medallion and leaf motifs.
