Bakshaish

An Afghan Bakshaish garden rug, knotted by hand with hand-carded, hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool. Woven by master weavers in northern Afghanistan.

Bakshaish rugs originated in the village of Bakshaish near Heriz in northwestern Persia, where village weavers developed their distinctive geometric style. The soft, variegated field with all-over Tree of Life motifs evokes the tranquility of a Persian garden.
