Privacy Policy

A note on how we respect and protect your privacy.

Effective date: June 1, 2026

Welcome to Kalyani Rugs. You might be here to browse our hand-knotted rugs, to read about how rugs are made and how to live with them, or to set aside pieces you find particularly remarkable. However you found your way here, we’re glad you came. We care about the trust you place in us, and this page is our honest account of what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe.

This website is owned and operated by Karavia, Inc., doing business as Kalyani Rugs (referred to here as “we,” “us,” or “our”). When we say “you,” we mean you, the human website visitor reading this.

What this website does, and doesn’t do

First, a word about how little this site asks of you. We don’t sell or take payments here, and we don’t ship orders through the site. For sales and shipping, please call us, email, or visit our store in Grass Valley. What you’ll find here instead is a gallery of our rugs, educational materials about rugs and how they fit into a home, and a wish list where you can save the pieces you love and send them to us when you’re ready. Because that’s all the site does, we collect very little, and what little we collect is never used to track you or profile you, and we don’t sell your information to anyone.

What we collect, and how

When you save or send a wish list. Our wish list lets you gather the rugs you’re drawn to. If you submit the wish list with your email address, we will receive a copy along with the rugs you’ve chosen, so that we may continue the conversation, or have rugs ready to show you at the shop.

When you join our mailing list. We keep your email address, as well as your name, address and phone if you provide them, so we can send you occasional notes about new arrivals, new writing, and happenings at Kalyani Rugs, a postcard announcing our sales, or a letter with Kalyani Rugs information.

When you correspond with us. When you send us an email or a letter, or reach us by any other means, we keep your message so that we may respond and, where it’s part of doing business together, for our records. Anything you share with us, such as your name, a telephone number, or your thoughts about a rug, is held with the same care as everything else described here.

Information collected automatically. Like almost every website, ours runs on a host that keeps ordinary server logs. This information may include your internet (IP) address, the kind of browser you use, the pages you visit, and the date and time of your visit. That’s a routine part of how any website runs and stays secure. We review these logs from time to time to get a sense of site traffic and page views.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser to help certain features work. We use only the basic, functional cookies set by WordPress, WooCommerce, and the wish list. These are the ones that remember your wish list and let the site work properly from one page to the next.

We use no advertising trackers, and no third-party tracking of any kind. We don’t follow where you go after you leave. If you’d rather not accept cookies, you can set your browser to refuse them, though the wish list may not work fully if you do.

How we use what we collect

We use your information only for the plain, ordinary purposes you’d expect: to answer your wish lists and questions, to send our newsletter to the people who asked for it, to keep the website running and secure, and to keep the business records the law requires of us.

We do not use your information to build a profile of you, to track you across the internet, or to sell anything about you to anyone.

Who we share it with, and who we don’t

We don’t sell, rent, or trade your information, and we never share it for anyone else’s advertising. The only outside parties who ever handle it are a few trusted service providers, each one helping us run the business and bound to treat your information with care:

  • Bluehost, which hosts our website;
  • Zoho Mail, which handles our email;
  • Sender.net, which sends emails to our email list.

Beyond these, we would not disclose your information unless the law compelled us to do so.

Our email mailing list

We add someone to our email list when they give us their email address, whether through this website, by writing to us, or in person at our store. Every email message we send to our email list has a clear unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click takes you off the list, and we honor that right away. You’re always free to come and go as you like.

Our general mailing list

We add someone to our general mailing list when they give us their name and address, whether through this website, by writing to us, or in person at our store. We use this list to send our sale postcards, and mailings related to Kalyani Rugs. Please contact us if you wish to be removed from the general mailing list, and we will honor that right away.

How long we keep your information

As an S-corporation, we’ve been advised to keep our business records for at least ten years, and we keep them in a secure place. We promptly remove your information from our email list provider, sender.net, when you unsubscribe or ask to leave. We remove your information from our general mailing list promptly when you ask to be taken off.

How we guard your information

We take sensible and customary steps to keep your information safe and store our records securely. In plain honesty, no method of transmitting information over the internet and no manner of storage is ever perfectly secure. While we guard your trust diligently, please be aware that there are circumstances beyond our control.

Children

This website is meant for adults who love rugs and isn’t directed to children under the age of thirteen. We don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Links to other websites

Once in a while, our writing or gallery may link you to another website we think is worth a look. Once you leave our site, you’re in someone else’s hands. We aren’t responsible for the privacy practices of sites we don’t run, so we encourage you to read their policies the way you’d read ours.

Your choices

You can leave our email list or general mailing list at any time. You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can turn down cookies through your browser. For any issue related to your information management, please write to us at the address below so we can take care of it.

Your California privacy rights

Our home is in California, and many of our guests live here too. Under California law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended, California residents may have the right to know what personal information we’ve collected and how we use it, to ask us to delete it, to ask us to correct it, and to be treated fairly for exercising any of these rights.

The law also asks us to tell you plainly whether we sell or “share” your personal information for advertising. We do not. We have never sold our guests’ information, and we have no intention of doing so.

To exercise any of these rights, please write to us at home@kalyanirugs.com or the address below, and we’ll respond as the law provides.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we’ll update this page and the effective date above. When a change is significant, we’ll do our best to let you know. Feel free to check back now and then.
