Mahal
An all-over Afghan design Mahal rug, knotted by hand with hand-carded, hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool. Woven by master weavers in northern Afghanistan.
A floral design inspired by the village weaving traditions of west-central Persia, where Mahal carpets flourished during the great expansion of the Sultanabad carpet industry in the nineteenth century. Their blend of traditional Persian design with spacious, open drawing created a style that has remained popular for over 150 years.
