Bakshaish

An Afghan Bakshaish garden rug, knotted by hand with hand-carded, hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool. Very fine weave.

Woven by master weavers in northern Afghanistan, Bakshaish rugs originated in the village of Bakshaish near Heriz in northwestern Persia, where village weavers developed their distinctive geometric style. The richly detailed field of willows and Tree of Life motifs evokes the splendor of Persian gardens.
