Genje

Inspired by the weaving traditions of Genje (Ganja) in present-day Azerbaijan, a historic carpet center of the South Caucasus whose nineteenth-century rugs became especially known for dynamic fields of multicolored diagonal stripes. In this small mat, the lively colorful bands are filled with hooked and angular floral motifs and framed by meandering borders, closely following the distinctive geometric motifs of classic Genje weaving.
