Turkoman
An Afghan Turkoman Salor Gul rug, knotted by hand with hand-carded, hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool.
Turkoman rugs grew from the nomadic and semi-nomadic culture of the Turkoman peoples of Central Asia, whose weavings served both practical and ceremonial roles in tent life, from floor coverings and storage bags to door hangings and wedding trappings. The repeating octagonal medallions are known as guls, from the Persian gol, meaning “flower.”
