Hatchli

Date: 2025Size: 3'1"x4'10" SKU: 73E64 Category:

An Afghan Hatchli rug, hand-knotted by Turkoman Ersari weavers with hand-carded, hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool.

A traditional design preserved for centuries by the Turkoman tribes of Central Asia, the Hatchli served as a doorway covering for the yurt, marking the threshold between the outer world and the sanctuary of the home. The distinctive intersecting design delineates compartments containing ancient tribal motifs, including rows of candles, ram’s horns, meandering botehs, and protection symbols, evoking blessings of strength, shelter, and welcome for all who enter.
